Please tell us a little bit about yourself:

I’m a food and drinks enthusiast working in my family business, which started as a bakery and now is one of the most popular coffee shops in San Salvador. As a chef, culinary arts was my first love. Then I met the coffee industry and it was love at first sight. Brewing coffee for my friends and customers is one of the greatest things that life let me do. To be the last part of a big coffee chain and represent the producer in every cup that I serve, is a huge responsibility, and also a great honor.

What are you excited to do while you are in Seoul?:

Get in touch with their culture, visit coffee shops and try their most representative food.

Please list the coffee competitions you have participated in, what year they took place, and your results:

6th Salvadoran Barista Championship 2013, 6th Place
9th Salvadoran Barista Championship 2016, 1st Place
World Barista Championship in Dublin 2016
10th Salvadoran Barista Championship, 1st Place

Is there anyone you would like to thank or recognize, or who helped you to prepare for the WBC?:

My coaches from Academia Barista Pro, Jonathan and Johanna, the Salvadoran Coffee Council (Consejo Salvadoreño del Café), my parents, sister, wife and my newborn baby. Thanks to all of them for their support and patience.

How do you see the coffee industry changing in the future?:

I see the coffee industry giving more importance to the producer, paying more attention to their work and helping them develop their farms and their varieties.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?:

Running my café-restaurant together with my family, serving great Salvadoran single origin coffees and making friends through a cup of coffee.

What are your interests outside of coffee?:

Food and drinks, wine culture, whisky culture, great music and motorsports.
